No rational civilian would think it is acceptable for the district attorney, with assistance from the prosecutor, be allowed to hand-pick the jury pool for a trial.
The concept destroys any notion of a fair and impartial jury of one’s peers. Folks, in the military, the convening authorities of defendants in court martials can, and do, hand-pick the “jury” pool, so in the end, every seated member of the officer panel (AKA: jury) was given a thumb’s up first by the convening authority.
You can imagine that he has carefully selected sycophants who will deliver the results they know he implicitly wants. After all, they are thinking, we wouldn’t be here; if the convening authority didn’t think he was guilty.
Consequently, conviction becomes their mission. This is one of the reasons why the military has a 98% conviction rate, while civilian district attorneys are happy to get a 60% conviction rate. It’s like playing a game of poker and the dealer is allowed to hand-pick his own cards. For some reason, the dealer will have a royal or straight flush every time, and win virtually every game.
The military judicial system is rigged very much in the same way.
